Top Of The Charts This new single is due September 27th 2024, radio impacting November 15th 2024 as the vinyl LP is released. Single link https://lnk.to/TopOfTheCharts The track has overlapping lyrics, see below, in a style partly inspired by Talking Heads...
"Why 'top of the charts'? This is a key line from the song ('songs of hate and love / climb to the top of the charts'). Since this song is almost like two songs - hate and love - happening at the same time, jostling for supremacy, it works as a signpost for the subject matter. I hear the track as cross between Talking Heads and something that could have been on a post-Roxy Music Brian Eno album," says Barton.
She's Your Ocean Now is out now...
Any Anywhere is out now...
Barton adds, "The three singles/videos introduce the scope of the album. The debut single She's Your Ocean Now is short and sweet with a killer groove to play live. Followed by the uptempo Any Anywhere with its sing-along chorus, one of the bigger productions on the album. Top Of The Charts is a one-chord song for the verses (in ‘E’ for those of you playing along), with an unexpected bridge section. They tie together as an intro to the Time Hard Won album (a groove song, a pop song and a one chord-er). If you listen to the entire album from start to finish you’ll get the wide array of tempos and the vocal range. This is by far the most ‘vibey’ album from me to date."

The Singles Collection A short extract from Scott McCaughey's sleeve notes:
“In this singular and woozy life, one comes across so many talented and wonderful individuals… I first met Steve Barton after a Wesley Stace (John Wesley Harding) show in Portland, Oregon. A place that I reside and it turns out Steve does too. I was pleased! Being a fan of Translator, I had experienced them at a very memorable performance in Seattle in the early-ish ‘80s. As is prone to happen, I was especially impressed with a rendition of Plastic Ono Band’s ‘Remember’ in the encore. But it’s hard not to remember the band’s (and Steve’s) classic ‘Everywhere That I’m Not’. Damn, to write an amazing song that follows you around… You see, Mr. Barton is the kind of guy I can relate to. He is going to keep on writing and recording songs until he can’t. This compilation of recent should-be-hit-singles is as good as everything else he’s done, which is saying a lot. You’ll hear Debbi Peterson and me and our pal Peter Buck on some of these tracks. We’re a community and we live to make noise with our friends. Dave Scheff is there too, as is a fellow Minus 5er Steve Berlin (oh yeah, he’s in Los Lobos too)… Spend some time with Steve Barton — he’s a great guy!” Scott McCaughey
